Abstract: This paper provides an overview of the development of numerical methods for modelling reinforced concrete structures. The overview of the research area is divided with regard to the cracks modelling, discretization of the concrete domain and modelling of reinforcement. The development of numerical methods for the cracks representation in the reinforced concrete structures has been presented from the very beginning to the methods used today. With regard to manner of the discretization of the concrete domain, continuum and discrete models are used, and the particular emphasis in this paper is on the discrete ones. Finally, reinforcement modelling in the continuum models as well as reinforcement and reinforcement fibers modelling approaches in discrete models are described in the last part of the paper.
