Abstract: Even though river Neretva valley aquifer has been objective of different research groups more than 50 years, a model that would reliably simulate the dynamic salinity properties on this site has not been established. This paper presents the theoretical basis and implementation of local conditions in the 3D numerical model of SEAWAT, which simulates non-stationary piezometric states and groundwater salinity characteristics on the site. The model covers the lower course of the Neretva River. The characteristics of geological layers, boundary and initial conditions were implemented in accordance with the available in situ monitoring data. Calibration of model parameters was performed using field measurements and available time series from existing piezometers. The results obtained by modelling in the dry period of the hydrological year show a significant correlation with the measured data.
